Kovar Alloy
Kovar alloy, ASTM F15, Nilo-K,UNS K94610(FeNi29Co17),Chinese 4J29
Kovar Alloy, is a controlled expansion alloy. It is a Nickel Iron alloy with 29% Nickel, 17% Cobalt and the remaining balance is Iron.
Forms: Sheet/Plate, Bar/Rod/Wire/Coil,Capillary/Pipe/Tube
DESCRIPTION
Kovar Alloy is a vacuum melted, iron-nickel-cobalt, low expansion alloy whose chemical composition is controlled
within narrow limits to assure precise uniform thermal expansion properties. Extensive quality controls are employed
in the manufacture of this alloy to ensure uniform physical and mechanical properties for ease in deep drawing,
coining, stamping and machining.
APPLICATION
Kovar alloy has been used for making hermetic seals with the harder Pyrex glasses and ceramic materials.
This alloy has found wide use in application where high reliability is a necessity. In power tubes, microwave tubes,
transistors, diodes, inter-grated circuits and has been used for the flat pack and the dual-in-line package.

Invar Alloy
Invar alloy,ASTM F1684,UNS k93600(FeNi36),Chinese 4J36
A Nickel-Iron, low expansion alloy containing 36% Nickel. It maintains nearly constant dimensions over the range
of normal atmospheric temperatures.
Forms: Sheet/Plate, Bar/Rod/Wire/Coil,Capillary/Pipe/Tube
DESCRIPTION
Invar (also know as Invar 36, NILO 36, Pernifer 36, and Invar Steel) is a low expansion alloy consisting of 36% Nickel, balance Iron.
Invar Alloy exhibits extremely low expansion around ambient temperatures, making Invar Alloy particularly useful in applications
where minimum thermal expansion and high dimensional stability is required, such as in precision instruments like optoelectronic
devices, optical and laser benches, electronics, and other kinds of scientific instruments.
APPLICATION
This alloy has been used for applications where dimensional changes due to temperature variation must be minimized such as in
radio and electronic devices, aircraft controls, optical and laser system, etc.

DESCRIPTION
Super Invar ,A low expansion alloy consisting of 32% Nickel, 4% Cobalt, and balance Iron. Super Invar Alloy exhibits
minimum thermal expansion at room temperatures (one half of Invar Alloy), as well as thermal expansion properties
less than that of Invar Alloy in the 67/203°F (-55/95°C) temperature range. The minimal expansion of Super Invar over
this range of temperatures, makes this alloy useful in many applications including structural components and
substrates in instrument systems requiring precision measurements.
APPLICATION
Optical instruments . Telescopes . Laser instruments and equipment . Ring laser gyroscopes . Laser benches .
Positioning devices . Metrology devices . Structural components . Substrates in instrument systems requiring
precision measurements, and other applications that require lower expansivity than Invar Alloy provides.

Alloy 27
DESCRIPTION
Alloy 27, it’s glass-to-metal sealing and iron-chromium alloy. Nominally 28 % chromium, in strip, bar, wire, and rod forms
intended primarily for sealing to glass in electronic applications. UNS K92801 should only be considered for use at service
temperatures below 300°C. The alloy is prone to sigma phase formation at temperatures close to 620°C, and exhibits brittle
mechanical behavior after prolonged exposures at temperatures close to 475°C.
Alloy 426
Sealmet HC-4, alloy 426, ASTM F31, UNS k94760, (Fe-42Ni-6Cr), Chinese 4J6
A controlled expansion alloy, consisting of 42% Nickel, 6% Chromium, balance Iron; used in a wide variety of electronic
applications, especially for glass seals.
Forms: Sheet/Plate, Bar/Rod/Wire/Coil,Capillary/Pipe/Tube
DESCRIPTION
A nickel-chromium-iron which has been developed to match the thermal expansion characteristics of 0120 glass.
An additional advantage of this alloy for glass-to-metals seals is the tight dark green oxide coating formed by
wet hydrogen annealing at 1900/2200°F (1038/1204°C) for one hour. The oxide tends to flux with the glass and
make it a vacuum tight seal if the surfaces are clean. To obtain the necessary surface cleanliness, pickle in muriatic acid.
APPLICATION
Glass to metal seals for a variety of electronic tubes and CRT tubes. It is supplied in wire form for compression seals.
